Top 25 Wedding Planning Tips to start your 2023 season!

  1. Set a budget: It's important to have a budget in mind before you start planning your wedding. This will help you make decisions and stay on track financially.

  2. Start planning early: The earlier you start planning your wedding, the more time you'll have to find the perfect vendors, venues, and deals.

  3. Make a list of priorities: Decide what's most important to you and your partner and prioritize those things in your planning. Usually, if you aren’t using a planner, the top 3 vendors most book first are Venue, DJ & Photographer.

  4. Choose a venue that fits your style: The venue sets the tone for your wedding, so choose one that aligns with your personal style, not just the popular place or the cheapest one in town.

  5. Hire a wedding planner: A wedding planner can help you navigate the planning process and make sure everything runs smoothly on your big day.

  6. Be mindful of your guest list: The number of guests you invite will impact many aspects of your wedding, so be mindful of your guest list when making decisions. All those second cousins start to add up when it’s $30 a plate.

  7. Select your wedding party carefully: Choose people who will be supportive and helpful throughout the planning process.

  8. Choose the right vendors: Research and carefully select vendors that fit your needs, budget, and style.

  9. Plan for contingencies: It's important to have a plan in case something unexpected happens on your wedding day. Most professionals in the industry carry liability insurance.

  10. Take time to relax and enjoy the planning process: Remember that this is a special time in your life, so try to enjoy the planning process as much as possible.

  11. Have a wedding website : A website is a great way to share important information with your guests and also to post updates.

  12. Don't be afraid to delegate: You don't have to do everything yourself! Delegate tasks to family and friends who are willing to help.

  13. Don't neglect the legal requirements: Be sure to check and fulfill all legal requirements for your wedding.

  14. Create a timeline: A wedding day timeline will help ensure that everything runs smoothly and on schedule.

  15. Consider hiring a day-of-coordinator: A day-of-coordinator can help with setup and breakdown, as well as making sure everything runs smoothly on the day of the wedding.

  16. think about the lighting and decorations: Lighting and decorations can have a big impact on the ambiance of your wedding.

  17. Think about the music: Music sets the tone for the entire event, so choose it carefully and make sure it reflects your personal style. This is why we are so adamant at creating CUSTOM mixes, every time!

  18. Be mindful of timing: Keep in mind the timing of your wedding when making decisions about food, drinks, and other aspects of your big day.

  19. Don't forget about transportation: Make sure you and your guests have transportation to and from the wedding. If the venue is out in the sticks, consider hiring a shuttle to bring everyone to and from.

  20. Make a gift registry: A gift registry can make it easier for your guests to know what you want or need.

  21. Be mindful of attire: Make sure everyone in the wedding party and guests knows what attire is expected. More and more weddings are going for a “classy but let’s not be uncomfortable.

  23. Create a wedding day emergency kit: A wedding day emergency kit can come in handy in case something unexpected happens. This could include things from, a sewing kit, Advil, bandaids…mini booze bottles…ya know, that kinda stuff!

  24. Take engagement photos: Engagement photos are a great way to capture your love story and can be used in save-the-dates and wedding websites.

  25. WOOOOOOOOSAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! Just breathe and remember this is supposed to be a fun celebration. Don’t sweat the little stuff and go along with the flow and

Goodbye, 2020.... Hello, 2021!

Goodbye, 2020.... Hello, 2021!

It’s been said a thousand times but let’s hear it one more time…

2020 sucked.

Straight up dumpster fire… (BTW, that’s my design up there, buy my shirt).

It was such a difficult year for many, many people and Forerunner Entertainment was no exception. Our little company had numerous clients forced to postpone their weddings and throwing everyone’s plans straight in the trashcan.

The hard part about being a DJ is you can only make money when there are gatherings… Which is exactly the opposite of what everyone wanted to do for a while.

Towards the tail end of 2020, we slowly started easing back into “Normal” things. I think some people still don’t quite know how to act around each other in public, but that we are thankful to be around other humans again and to dance and laugh together.

The future is still up in the air but I know one thing.

People still need to get married, and we intend to be here when it’s finally time.

Chris and Nicole Torres/Jeff's 35th Birthday

Every few years or so, my birthday rolls around to a weekend date… So naturally, I am left with the decision to take the day off, or to party with someone else and celebrate THEIR big day. This year was a no-brainer when I met Chris & Nicole. Chris was so absolutely hilarious and Nicole was such a sweet heart that choosing to spend my 35th revolution around the sun celebrating them tying the knot was an easy decision.

Everything was held at Trickle Creek Event Center which I have only had the pleasure of working at once or twice before. The whole shebang was put together by my bff Ammie over at Glitter And Glue Weddings and once again, she completely crushed it!

I made a new friend in Corbin, the fashionable Chief Espresso Officer over at Nightowl Coffee Co. with their awesome Coffee Cart. The poor guy took one for the team and was set up outside in the cold to help with social distancing but his hot coffee kept him and the guests warm all night long. I probably drank 4 of the toasty brews with almond milk!

These beautiful photos are provided courtesy of my friends over at Nate And Grace Photography. At the time of posting this, you can see the Sneak Peek Gallery by clicking here.

I am really excited to see the video footage that 47 Weddings will be posting soon from the whole day but here is a little behind the scenes peek that I shot from the DJ booth!

What a crazy few months it's been!

So if you couldn’t tell… I kind of forget about the blog, lol.

I am the worlds worst at remembering to update the world on the happenings of the Forerunner Entertainment team. A lot has happened this summer, over a dozen weddings, I bought a mini van (I KNOW, I KNOW, but it’s actually pretty rad and with 3 kids, it’s a MUCH better family vehicle than my wrangler, lol.) we took a family trip to Silverthorne Colorado and I never wanted to leave!

Look how adorable my family is… It’s ridiculous.

Look how adorable my family is… It’s ridiculous.

Perhaps the most exciting thing, however, was that the photo booth side of things has REALLY taken off. So well in fact, that we’ve started to form it into it’s own company Panther City Photo Booth Co.

Still the same amazing wooden photo booth you all love, the same amazing (and ridiculously attractive) owners, but with an all new name! This way Forerunner can be focused purely on the DJ and Uplighting side of things while PCPBC can have it’s own social media accounts without being drowned out with all the other content.

So, during the growing pains, PLEASE be an awesome human and go give the new facebook and instagram a like/follow at the links below!

www.facebook.com/panthercityphotoboothco

www.instagram.com/panthercityphotoboothco

Thanks for popping in to read up on what’s been going on! Now, if you will excuse me, I have some bats to hang, spiderwebs to stretch, and some pumpkins to carve…THE BEST 3 MONTHS OF THE YEAR ARE UPON US!!!

This week we were out at the always gorgeous Brik Venue in downtown Fort Worth.

I love that Brik Venue has an upstairs/downstairs/patio options so you can mix and match where you want to host your Ceremony/Cocktail Hour/Reception to what best suits your custom needs.

This historical building is right by the train tracks in the heart of downtown but it makes you feel like you're miles from all the bustle of the city.

HUGE shout out to Jennifer and Alex for getting hitched and their rockstar team we had on this one.

So sorry for the long wait to bring this one out. I'm discovering very quickly that I am a DJ and NOT a videographer, lol. So if you’ve never scrolled down to the very bottom of our website, then you have probably never seen this.

This is a custom map that we made on google back in the day to track all the venues that we have worked at before. Admittedly, I’m a bit slow to update this bad boy because more often than not, we have already been to most venues that our clients book with.

With that being said, I painstakingly just dove back on the past year at all the venues we rocked and added in a few missing pegs on the map.

Take a look below and see if you can find your venue and let us know if not!

It was an amazing day out at one of our favorite venues; The Orchard Event Venue and Retreat out in Azle, Texas!

Cat & Landon held their ceremony outside overlooking the beautiful pond. It cracks me up because the cows at the neighboring property always come up to watch the show, lol.

We documented the entire day on our new Gig Log which I would love for you to take a few minutes to watch, it was such a gorgeous  day!

That’s right, we’ve committed! 2 vlogs already in the bag and the year has just begun...

I’m so darn proud of us...  being all responsible and following through... twice!

For real though, this was a ton of fun to put together!

We had the pleasure of working back out at The Piazza In the Village which actually JUST became acquired by the ever growing army that is Aristide! I have a few back out here for 2019 and look forward to seeing what changes (if any) they make to the venue! This time I worked with the awesome couple Michele & Matt Skladzien!

It was so much fun and the cool part was that I was actually approached by THREE different people that had already seen me DJ one of their friends/family members wedding in the past! It’s awesome that they even remembered me (:

What do you do when you’re bad at blogs?

…Apparently, you start a Vlog! At least that’s what we are doing, lol.

It’s always been awesome hopping on YouTube and just diving into all these interesting worlds of people around the planet (I particularly like to watch this one dude that dives into rivers with his GoPro and just hunts down lost property underwater).

Aaaaaaanyways… We’re going big for 2019 and want to let people see some of the insider footage of a day in the life of a DJ!

Won’t you be an awesome human and help us on our journey to take over the world, one subscriber at a time?!

Union Rite, what the heck is that?!

So, I might be an awesome DJ, but it turns out that I am absolutely dreadful at blogging, lol.

The past few months have been filled with AMAZING weddings that I simply forget to write up a few words about. Luckily, I always manage to remember to at least snap a quick selfie which I always post on our Instagram!

Tonight, I wanted to take a minute to type up a quick thought that is always weighing on my mind.

If you are like me, you are a SUPER sentimental person. And when it comes to weddings, I am always excited when my clients decide to do a Union Rite. A Union Rite is most commonly recognized as a Unity Candle. You have probably seen this at one point. One family lights a candle as they walk in, the other family lights another candle as they walk in. Then, during the ceremony, the couple each grab their family’s candle and together light a center candle symbolizing the unity of two families.

unity candle.jpg

This is great but doesn’t work well outside and can also be super awkward when a family has to fight with the lighter to work, forgets to light their candle, lights the wrong one, or worse… One of the flames blows out! (terrible symbolism fail!)

A similar variant is called the Sand Ceremony. This is done by pouring 2 vials of different colored sand into a center jar. (If you are religious, the officiant will pour a 3rd color as a base layer of sand symbolizing God being the foundation of your marriage. If there are kiddos involved, it’s nice to give them a color as well to symbolize their part in the family.) With the whole premise being, “what is joined together, can never again be separated. Nobody can pick out each and every grain of sand and split them from each other, just as your marriage is forever bound.

sand ceremony.jpg

I like the sand more than the candle because now you have something tangible that you get to take home and keep on the mantle to remind yourself daily of your beautiful wedding. However, the sand isn’t fool proof either. Make sure to take turns pouring layers instead of pouring simultaneously, otherwise it turns into a pretty ugly keepsake, lol. Also, one of my own best friends tried the sand ceremony at his outdoor wedding and the wind whipped the sand directly in their faces! This was a memorable moment for sure, just not the one I think they had in mind, lol.

For the more religious based, the most popular options by far are the Unity Cross which you can see here. The cross is assembled by placing the pieces together, then by inserting 3 nails to hold everything in place. Again, utilizing heavy symbolism of the joining of the families and being held together by religion.

unity cross.jpg
3cord.jpg

As well as God’s Knot, AKA “The Cord Of Three Strands”. Weaving 3 strands together symbolizing the 2 families joining together with God being the 3rd strand. Making everything stronger by joining together.

Feel free to think outside the box by doing something unique and more attuned to your style. I had a couple who poured some Whiskey into a “Unity Barrel”, then they branded the barrel with a hot iron featuring their initials, it was awesome! They ended up drinking it on their 1 year anniversary and I thought that was just the coolest idea!

Do a bit of brainstorming (or Googling) and come up with your own unique idea…I would love if you shared with us what you decided on.

Jennifer & Dr. David Landers

My 3rd of 3 weddings this weekend ended at a new venue for me Fourty50 in Addison. This place is right down the road from some of my favorite restaurants incuding The Loving Hut (Vegan Buffet) and Blue Goose Cantina (Amazing Mexican food) as well as the Coconut Grill (Thai food to write home about). Fourty50 was a very spacious venue with a nice feature of a draw curtain which let us separate the cocktail hour from the main ballroom. This enabled us to flip the room while the guests could enjoy drinks and appetizers without seeing the magic behind changing the main room from ceremony to reception layout.

I got got to work with one of my favorite planners in DFW, Amanda Travis and her team from Fete & Frivolity wo blew me away with their floral arrangements and putting together an amazing evening.

I can’t lie though, the desserts that Jennifer and David picked out were probably the best options I’ve had all year!

For the 2nd of 3 weddings this weekend: Saturday I was back at Lone Star Mansion (which was flippin’ amazing because I got to leave all my gear set up from the nights prior wedding!). I got to test drive my brand new Antenna system for my microphones and wireless speaker systems! (That’s what that Tie Fighter looking apparatus is, lol).

This bad boy will pick up or throw a flawless signal dang near as far as the eye can see, which is great for something as important as weddings so there’s no drop outs in sound and we can be clear and out of the way from everyone for a clean set up!

the ceremony was brief and beautiful (and the audio was flawless (;

Jeremy & Patricia Hamblin

So all excuses aside, I apologize for slacking on keeping the blog up to date. I get so busy with life and totally forget about this thing from time to time.

Anyways, this past weekend we had what I like to call a “Hydra” aka “A triple Header”. We had the pleasure of being a part of 3 amazing weddings all within 3 days and man was it a whirlwind of awesomeness!

We kicked off the weekend with Friday’s wedding for our first Bride & Groom out at one of my all time favorite venues Lone Star Mansion. Lone Star Mansion is one of the few venues in DFW that has us listed as their Preferred Vendor for DJ and Photo Booth (Thanks, guys!). This naturally means that we are booked out there quite often (which is amazing because the staff and crew are so flawless at their jobs which makes mine that much easier!).

Jeremy & Patricia’s wedding was Beauty & The Beast themed with an encased rose at every seat and a castle cake fit for a princess!

We provided what I like to call the “Sharks & Explosions” package which basically means they booked out everything we have to offer. DJ, Wireless Uplighting, one of our Signature Motion Monograms, and our beautiful wooden Photo Booth with our Premium Props and our new awesome laser cut custom Hashtag Signs! The venue looked magical!

I managed to snag video of their beautiful “Secret Last Dance” where you can get a taste of some of the uplighting features we provided (:

Overall, it was a breathtaking evening and an absolute pleasure providing so many services for their big day!

Creating A Flawless Wedding Reception Timeline

Figuring out the best timeline for a wedding reception can be super tricky! There are so many events and seemingly small details scattered throughout the day that the average person has no idea even goes into a wedding! After helping plan and host over 550 weddings, I have developed some awesome tips to designing the perfect timeline for your big day.

Take these tips with a grain of salt and always trust your professional wedding planner to design the perfect plan for you. However, if you are a DIY bride, these few hints can be a total game changer for your dream wedding. (;

Brace yourselves and maybe hit the restroom or grab a lite snack, this is gonna be a long one...

Grand Introductions

After your guests have made their way to your reception, it's always awesome to announce the arrival of the bridal party and the epic couple of the millennium aka YOU!

Getting everyones attention and have a fun upbeat song to bring your bridesmaids and groomsmen into the party with style as the DJ announces their names giving them a few seconds of the limelight leading up to you and your new Husband/Wife in all your amazing glory!

Special Dances

I usually like to do the first dance and parent dances directly following grand introduction, then go into dinner afterwards. This way we still retain all the guests attention from the grand intro during the dances and avoid background noise and conversation with clanking plates and such from people still eating if we were to wait until after dinner to do them. Your guests aren't trying to be rude, but it is certainly a huge distraction from a very important moment in the night.

Anniversary Dance

Then, to jar everyone out of the “dinner mood” I use the anniversary dance. Let me explain. First we brings everyone in a relationship out to the dance floor. During the dance we call out increments of time. If they have been together for that amount of time or longer, they can continue dancing, if not, we ask them to step off the dance floor and we dwindle it down to the longest running couple where we share in an amazing round of applause for their tremendous effort and perhaps even ask them for some helpful hints/survival tips for the other couples.

Naturally this song is terrible right before open dancing because we don't want to "yoyo" everyone on and off the floor which is why I love to use it right before cake cutting and toasts so it's a nice transition to point peoples attention towards the cake table.

*I only advise not to do the anniversary dance if there has been a recent death or divorce in the family that will bring on some painful emotions. Otherwise, It's an amazing addition to any wedding timeline!

Cake and Toasts

Cake is always better done before toasts in my opinion. This way we can cut the cake and then divert attention from the cake to the toasts. By doing this, we give the staff much longer time to start cutting up the cake and prepping it for the guests to enjoy instead of having them run to the table like wolves and swarming the staff making them feel rushed to cut. Not to mention giving the bar plenty of time to pour champaign toasts if they have that in the budget.

Bouquet and Garter Toss

After kicking off open dancing, I like to treat the Bouquet and Garter Toss kind of as an intermission in the dancing. I keep an eye out on the floor and if I notice people are getting tired and we are thinning out on the floor. Then would be a good time to do the tosses to let people catch their breath, grab a drink, and revitalize back to the floor afterwards with a good crowd pleaser! It’s much better than sticking to a specific time and killing the vibe of a full dance floor.

Last Dances (Yes, Two Of Them!)

Finally, I like to always have 2 last dances. The first featuring all the guests should be an upbeat song. Slow dances exclude a lot of guests that are single or just not wanting to slow dance, so something upbeat and exciting is great to get everyone on the floor.  Once that is over, we announce for everyone to head outside and prep for the grand exit.

While everyone heads outside, we then have the couple share their last dance completely alone in the building (along with DJ & Photog). Giving them a moments peace to share with just each other to end their perfect day together and soak up the emotions. Their day often flies by so quickly, it’s nice to let them slow down and realize what has happened and share a nice dance and private talk to wind it all down. The photographer has a chance to get some amazing last photos of the couple as well (;

The secret last dance also gives the staff plenty of time to wrangle up the umm...incapacitated.... guests and line everyone up and pass out sparklers or glow sticks, etc.

Telling everyone that the couple wants to share their last dance alone also helps to rush the guests out of the building with all their personal belongings which is a great way to get those lingerers that tend to stand around and talk inside and endangering you of getting charged extra for going over on time.

I know everyone has their own ideas of the best format for timeline, and this is just mine. lol

So in closing, this format is my ideal layout for a perfect wedding reception timeline:

Grand Intro

First Dance

Parent Dances

Blessing/Welcome Speech

Dinner

Anniversary Dance

Cake Cutting

Toasts

Open Dancing

Bouquet/Garter

Group Last Dance

Secret Last Dance

Grand Exit
